How to register as a new voter

  1. Go to voters.eci.gov.in and create an account with your mobile number.
  2. Choose Form 6 for new registration.
  3. Enter your personal details, exactly as they appear on your proof documents.
  4. Upload proof of age, proof of address and a passport-size photograph.
  5. Enter the details of a family member already on the roll in the same constituency, if applicable — it helps the Booth Level Officer verify your application.
  6. Submit and note the reference number.
  7. A Booth Level Officer may visit to verify your address before the application is accepted.

Checking your name and finding your booth

  1. Open voters.eci.gov.in and choose the search option.
  2. Search by your EPIC number, or by name and other details, or by your registered mobile number.
  3. The result shows your part number, serial number and polling station.
  4. Note these before polling day — knowing your part and serial number makes finding your name on the roll at the booth considerably faster.
  5. Always verify your name on the roll in the weeks before an election. Names are sometimes removed during revision.

Voting without a physical Voter ID

A physical EPIC is not the only way to vote. What matters is that your name is on the electoral roll for that polling station. The Election Commission notifies a list of alternative identity documents accepted at the booth before each election.

The e-EPIC — a digital, downloadable version of the card — can be obtained from the Voters’ Service Portal, and is a convenient backup.

How do I register to vote for the first time?
