How to check your result

  1. Go to the official result portal for your board. For CBSE that is cbseresults.nic.in; for CISCE it is cisce.org; State boards each have their own.
  2. Enter your roll number and the other details the portal asks for, usually school number and date of birth.
  3. View the result and take a screenshot or print immediately — result servers are heavily loaded on result day and access can be intermittent.
  4. Collect the digitally signed marksheet from DigiLocker, where your board participates. It carries the same validity as the original.
  5. Obtain the physical marksheet from your school when the board issues it.

Result day, realistically

  • Servers are under extreme load on result day. If the page does not load, wait rather than refreshing repeatedly.
  • Boards usually publish through several channels — the results portal, DigiLocker, SMS and the UMANG app. If one is unreachable, try another.
  • Have your roll number, school number and date of birth ready before you start. Fumbling for them costs time on a loaded server.
  • Save the result immediately once it appears.

Revaluation, rechecking and compartment

Boards provide defined post-result routes, each with its own short window and fee. The names and exact scope differ by board.

  • Verification of marks: the board rechecks that marks have been totalled correctly and that no question was left unmarked. It does not re-assess your answers.
  • Obtaining a photocopy of the evaluated answer book, which allows you to see how it was marked.
  • Re-evaluation of specific questions, usually available only after obtaining the photocopy, and generally limited to certain subjects.
  • Compartment or supplementary examination for candidates who did not pass in one or more subjects, held some weeks after the main result.
  • Every one of these has a short application window. Missing it usually means waiting a full cycle.

Digital marksheets

Marksheets and certificates issued through DigiLocker by a participating board are digitally signed and legally at par with the physical document. For most admission and job applications they are accepted directly.

Fetch them as soon as they are available rather than waiting until you need them.

Where do I check my CBSE result?
On cbseresults.nic.in, the official CBSE results portal, using your roll number, school number and date of birth. Results are also pushed to DigiLocker as digitally signed marksheets, and are available by SMS and through UMANG.
Is a DigiLocker marksheet valid for admission?
Yes. A marksheet issued into DigiLocker by the board is digitally signed and legally at par with the physical document. Most institutions accept it directly, though some still ask to see the physical copy at final verification.
What is the difference between verification of marks and re-evaluation?
Verification checks that marks were totalled correctly and no question was left unmarked — it does not re-assess your answers. Re-evaluation involves a fresh assessment of specific questions and is usually available only after you obtain a photocopy of the answer book. Both have short application windows and separate fees.
What happens if I fail in one subject?
Boards conduct a compartment or supplementary examination some weeks after the main result for candidates who did not pass in one or more subjects. The number of subjects permitted and the process are set by each board and announced with the result.
