How to check your result
- Go to your university’s official website — not a third-party results aggregator.
- Open the examination or results section and select your course, semester and examination session.
- Enter your enrolment or registration number as printed on your admit card.
- Download and save the result. University result pages are often replaced when the next session is published.
- Where your university participates in the National Academic Depository or DigiLocker, fetch the digitally signed marksheet as well.
Check the university is recognised
Before relying on a degree, confirm the institution is recognised by the University Grants Commission. UGC maintains lists of recognised universities and also publishes lists of institutions it has identified as fake.
This matters most for distance and online programmes, and for institutions awarding degrees without the entitlement to do so. A degree from an unrecognised institution will not be accepted for government employment or for further study.
Revaluation and backlog examinations
- Most universities allow rechecking, revaluation or a challenge evaluation, each with its own fee and a short application window after the result.
- Rechecking usually verifies totalling only; revaluation involves a fresh assessment. The distinction and the fee differ by university.
- Backlog, supplementary or improvement examinations are held on a schedule set by the university. The rules on how many attempts are permitted, and within what period, are in the university’s examination ordinance.
- Read the ordinance rather than relying on what a senior student says — these rules are revised more often than people expect.
Transcripts and degree certificates
A consolidated marksheet or transcript is usually needed for higher study abroad and for many employers. It is applied for separately from the semester marksheets, through the examination section of the university.
Apply well in advance. Universities commonly take several weeks, and transcripts for overseas applications often need to be sent in sealed envelopes directly to the receiving institution.
